| Residents of the City of Vaughan are
asked to note the following information that is provided to enable
residents to become aware of Municipal by-laws and their obligations
as community members. Your cooperation in complying with these by-laws
will help keep your neighbourhood sidewalks and streets safe and
accessible this winter for you, your family and neighbours
SIDEWALK SNOW CLEARING
Residents are required to ensure that snow and ice are cleared
from the City sidewalk abutting their property within 24 hours after
a fall of snow, as per By-Law #300-93.
Failure to comply upon notice will result in the City performing
the work and billing the cost to the resident. In addition, a fine
of $125.00 may be imposed.
Notwithstanding the above, Council has approved a citywide sidewalk
snow clearing program to assist residents DURING HEAVY PERIODS OF
SNOW. However, this service does not alleviate residents from maintaining
the sidewalk in a safe condition as required under By-Law #300-93.
Further information may be obtained by contacting the Public Works
Department, Parks Department at 905-832-8577 or by visiting our
web site at www.vaughan.ca
WINDROW SNOW CLEARING SERVICE
The City of Vaughan offers a citywide driveway windrow snow clearing
service where sufficient snow fall warrants the roads being ploughed.
Under normal conditions, windrows in front of driveways should be
cleared within 24 hours of a significant snowfall ceasing. For further
information, please call the Public Works Department – Roads Division
at 905-832-8562
DEPOSITING OF SNOW ON ROADWAY
Owners and tenants of property in the City of Vaughan are hereby
notified that Ontario Highway Traffic Act prohibits the placing
of snow or ice on a roadway.
Please ensure that any snow removed from your property is not placed
on the roadway.
OBSTRUCTIONS NEAR SIDEWALKS AND DRIVEWAYS
Owners and tenants of property in the City of Vaughan are also
hereby notified that By-law
#244-2005 prohibits the building, placement or maintaining of
posts, fences, trees, hedges, retaining walls and wooden or concrete
curbing on all public road allowances on any road in the municipality.
For your information, the road allowance usually begins at a point
behind the public sidewalk and typically at the water curb box shut
off. The removal of any such obstruction is particularly important
for the safe and efficient clearing of sidewalks and driveway windrows
by municipal forces.
PARKING RESTRICTIONS ON STREET PARKING (OVERNIGHT)
In an effort to improve snowploughing services and to keep roads
clear for emergency vehicles, the City of Vaughan has enacted By-Law
1-96 as amended, which prohibits overnight parking of vehicles on
any street in the City of Vaughan between the hours of 2:00 a.m.
and 6:00 a.m. and in no case can a vehicle be parked on a City of
Vaughan street in excess of three hours between the hours of 6:00
a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
PARKING ON OR OVER A SIDEWALK
City of Vaughan By-Law # 1-96 prohibits the parking of a vehicle
on or over a sidewalk in such a manner so as to restrict or impede
the safe and efficient removal or snow or ice from the sidewalk.
YOUR COOPERATION IN COMPLYING WITH THE ABOVE WILL HELP
KEEP YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD SAFE AND ACCESSIBLE
THIS WINTER
FOR YOU, YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR NEIGHBOURS
