| The City no longer uses a sand/salt
mixture in the urban areas. In previous winters, the City would
apply a mixture of 70% salt and 30% sands to its roads in order
to de-ice the roadway. The sand portion has been eliminated, and
only the salt portion will be applied.
This change will:
- Reduce Spring clean up costs
- Reduce dust on roads in dry conditions
- Reduce the frequency of catch basin cleaning
- Reduce silting of storm water channels and ponds
- Allow spreader vehicles to cover more territory before having
to refill with material
NOTE: Sand is used in the rural areas on the gravel
roads. No salt is applied.
