The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced that American Household Inc. (AHI), formerly Sunbeam Corporation, is recalling 60,000 Star ME-1 dry sprinklers made by Chemetron Corporation (inactive subsidiary of AHI) from 1977 to 1982.

CPSC also issued a warning to replace 400,000 Star ME-1 dry fire sprinklers manufactured from 1983 through 1995 by Sprinkler Corporation of Milwaukee, Inc. (SCM), formerly known as Star Sprinkler Corporation. This was not announced as a recall because SCM is no longer in operation and has no assets to fund a recall.

In 1999, the Mealane Corporation, and in 2001, the Central Sprinkler Corporation also announced recalls of Star ME-1 sprinkler heads with various manufacturing dates.

The notices and warnings issued over the past several years have resulted in the recall of all Star ME-1 sprinkler heads manufactured between 1961 and 1998.
