| The Wastewater & Drainage section
of the Public Works Department is responsible to monitor and maintain
infrastructure for the collection of wastewater and to control the
environmental impact of our storm management system.
Sewage generated by Vaughan flows through over 45 kms of sewers
before it reaches the Dufferin Creek treatment plant located just
east of the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station. Sewage is treated
and released back into Lake Ontario. The Kleinburg area is serviced
by a treatment plant operated by the Region of York.
Liquids such as engine oil, paint, and cooking oil, contaminate
and clog sewers creating expensive maintenance costs and should
never be poured down drains. These liquids should be taken to the
hazardous waste depot at Torontos Keele Valley Landfill site.
